SUMMARY:Modes are Modes: Parametric quantum information processing in
 superconducting circuits\, R. G. Herb Condensed Matter Seminar\, Jose
 Aumentado \, NIST\, Boulder
DESCRIPTION:I will give a brief overview of our work in utilizing para
metric coupling to process quantum information in superconducting circ
uits. In the 2nd half\, I will then discuss some of our ideas in conti
nuously coupled multi-mode parametric circuits\, and how expansion of
the mode basis beyond the traditional two modes (signal+idler) can pro
vide for more complex behavior including\, for instance\, the possibil
ity of building in directionality\, impedance matching\, and even modi
fiying the gain-bandwidth constraint. As a simple example\, I will dis
cuss a 3-mode amplifier which has been realized in our group in an opt
 omechanical circuit.
