SUMMARY:Higgs and Dark Matter: Absence of Evidence != Evidence of Abse
nce?\, NPAC (Nuclear/Particle/Astro/Cosmo) Forum\, Prof Nausheen Shah\
, Fermilab
DESCRIPTION: Since the Higgs discovery in 2012\, the LHC has not found
 any
\nconclusive evidence for the presence of New Physics (NP) at
 the weak
\nscale. While there are stringent limits on strongly in
teracting NP\, the
\nweakly interacting sector is minimally constr
ained. In addition\, dark
\nmatter direct detection experiments ha
ve been putting increasingly
\nstringent bounds on the cross secti
ons of dark matter particles
\nscattering off nuclei. This has led
 to wide spread pessimism regarding
\nthe WIMP paradigm\, and most
well studied SUSY models such as the MSSM or
\nthe NMSSM. I take
a different view point. What if the lack of evidence\,
\ninstead o
f being due to absence of NP at the weak scale\, is actually
\ntel
ling us where NP could be hiding? In that spirit I will discuss the
\nimplications for an extended Higgs sector of a SM-like Higgs in ge
neric
\n2HDMs+\, using the NMSSM as motivation. Next I will talk a
bout the
\npossible connections of 2HDMs with dark matter using an
 EFT formulation\,
\nparticularly focusing on the connotations of
null signals in direct
\ndetection experiments. Finally\, I will d
iscuss some tantalizing recent
\nresults from electroweakino searc
hes at the LHC\, showing how these may
\nbe consistent with astrop
hysical observations\, and fit naturally in the
\nMSSM/NMSSM setup
