SUMMARY:Light sterile neutrinos in compact binary merger remnants \, N
etwork in Neutrinos\, Nuclear Astrophysics\, and Symmetries (N3AS) Sem
inar\, Irene Tamborra \, Niels Bohr Institute\, Denmark
DESCRIPTION:The coalescence of a neutron star with another neutron sta
r or a black hole leads to the formation of a compact binary merger. T
he upcoming large number of binary merger remnant observations will of
fer unprecedented opportunities to characterize the population of bina
ry mergers\, the physics of these sources\, and also the eventual exis
tence of physics beyond the Standard Model. The existence of extra ste
rile neutrino species is not ruled out because of persistent experimen
tal anomalies and it could have indirect implications on the merger di
sk cooling rate\, the merger outflows\, and related electromagnetic ob
servables. In this talk\, we will explore the flavor conversion phenom
enology in the presence of sterile neutrinos in compact binary merger
 remnants.
