SUMMARY:Emergent Strings in Type IIB String Theory from type IIb Calab
 i-Yau compactifications\, Theory Seminar (High Energy/Cosmology)\, Bjo
 ern Friedrich\, U. Heidelberg\, ITP
DESCRIPTION:The known web of string dualities connects Heterotic and T
ype IIA string theory via a duality in six or less dimensions. It is k
nown that a fundamental heterotic string emerges from a wrapped NS5 br
ane. Motivated by mirror symmetry\, importantly including the existenc
e of NS5 branes\, we argue that there exists an emergent string in typ
e IIB Calabi-Yau compactifications arising by the internal space degen
erating into a Tyurin degeneration\, a particular realization of a typ
e IIb limit in the complex structure moduli space. Event recording: ht
