SUMMARY:Orbital magnetism and flat bands in magnetic field\, R. G. Her
 b Condensed Matter Seminar\, Oskar Vafek \, UMN-FTPI
DESCRIPTION:I will discuss recent theoretical progress in understandin
g the role played by the electron-electron interactions in orbital mag
netism\, and highlight results obtained for the flat bands of the magi
c angle twisted bilayer graphene\, as well as for some twisted transit
ion metal dichalcogenides. I will also discuss the effect of the exter
nal out-of-plane magnetic field on the correlated ground states and th
eir excitations\, and compare the ensuing Landau level degeneracies wi
 th the experimental observations.
