In a groundbreaking collaboration, the Wisconsin Quantum Computing Club (WQCC) is teaming up with IBM Quantum to be one of the few universities around the world to host the Qiskit Fall Fest. This October marks the start of a month-long series of events focused on quantum education. The WQCC’s partnership with IBM Quantum aims to provide opportunities for a wide audience to get involved in quantum computing, fostering a vibrant community of interdisciplinary quantum enthusiasts.

Quantum computing has long been the subject of fascination for scientists and tech enthusiasts alike, with the promise of solving complex problems that are beyond the reach of classical computers. The Qiskit Fall Fest seeks to demystify the world of quantum computing and bring its revolutionary capabilities closer to a broader audience.

Since its inception in the beginning of 2023, the WQCC has been rapidly expanding into a large group of interdisciplinary students passionate about quantum computing. The WQCC hopes to lower the barrier of entry into quantum computing, and show that this exciting field holds opportunities for people of all backgrounds. With the support of IBM Quantum, the WQCC has taken a giant leap towards achieving this goal.

What is Qiskit?

Users can experiment with real quantum computers using Qiskit through an intuitive graphical interface or Python code.

Qiskit is IBM Quantum’s open-source quantum computing framework. It provides a powerful platform for researchers, students, and enthusiasts to experiment with quantum algorithms and hardware, bridging the gap between theory and practical applications.

A Glimpse into the Festivities

The Qiskit Fall Fest boasts an exciting lineup of events and activities that will cater to both beginner and experienced quantum computing enthusiasts:

Oct 5 – Qiskit Fall Fest Kickoff: Introduction to Quantum Computing and Quantum Information

Oct 11 – Quantum Talks by Quantum Experts: Eugene Simon Polzik

Oct 19 – Introduction to Qiskit and Quantum Software

Oct 21 – Quantum Hackathon Kickoff

Oct 26 – Qiskit Fall Fest Closing Event + Hackathon Winner Announcement

A Glimpse into the Future

“Part of building the quantum computing industry is building you: the people who are going to be the future of this industry”, said Brian Ingmanson from IBM Quantum.

This collaboration between the WQCC and IBM Quantum represents a significant step in bringing the University of Wisconsin – Madison to the forefront of quantum computing. UW has long been a leader in cutting-edge research, but the WQCC seeks to now build a vibrant community of students supporting each other in their quantum journeys.
