Mark Eriksson, Steenbock Professor of Physical Sciences and John Bardeen Professor of Physics, has been named Director of the Wisconsin Quantum Institute. Eriksson will succeed Mark Saffman, the inaugural WQI director and the Johannes Rydberg Professor of Physics, who led many initiatives aimed at promoting cross-campus collaboration, community engagement, and research partnerships within the broader QISE ecosystem.
“It has been a privilege to help guide the WQI as Director for the past 6 1/2 years,” says Mark Saffman. “A lot has happened in the Quantum world in and around UW-Madison in that time. As of March 1, Professor Mark Eriksson will step into the role of WQI director. I look forward to continuing working closely with the WQI quantum community as a member of the steering committee.”
WQI is an institute in the College of Letters & Science. Eriksson is poised to lead its next phase of growth and work closely with the emerging WQA (Wisconsin Quantum Alliance) to increase opportunities for industry engagement.
